Course Description:
So, you have a carry permit and a handgun to protect yourself and your family. What next? This class builds upon your basic shooting skills, enhances your abilities to operate your weapon, and provides the tools necessary for FIGHTING with your handgun. This class is essential for anyone who carries a concealed firearm, but it is also a critical class for operating your handgun inside or outside your home and in the everyday world.
-You should be familiar with firearms safety, the manual of arms for your weapon, and shooting at a range with others. In this class you ARE EXPECTED to have at least a basic understanding of how to operate your firearm—we hit this class running. Conduct yourself accordingly.
Course Outline:
-Mindset: Awareness, safety, and lifestyle
-Selecting a defensive handgun and associated gear
-Firearms Safety: Four rules of gun handling
-Loading and Unloading
-Draw-stroke/presentation
-Fundamentals of accurate, effective shooting
-M.O.V.E. and F.A.S.T.
-Basic malfunction clearing
-Various Shooting positions
-Legal and mindset Talk: Use of Deadly Force
What to bring:
--Open mind and willingness to learn
--Working handgun, appropriate for concealed carry. Either revolver or semi-automatic (recommended: 9mm, .40sw, .45acp, .38spl., or .357mag.)
--Any/all gear to accommodate handgun, including: holster, magazine carriers, and at least 3 spare magazines
--300 Rounds of FACTORY loaded ammunition; you may bring more if you want to shoot afterwards or if you want more practice
--Wide brimmed hat/ball-cap
--Safety Glasses (ANSI rated)
--Hearing Protection (muffs recommended)
-- Clothing appropriate for the weather
--Bug spray/sun block
-- Driver’s license or state ID, military personnel also bring military ID, or Concealed carry permit
--Pen and paper to take notes
-Bring a lunch, snacks, drinks—we do a working lunch
Tips:
-Be familiar with the operations of your firearm, try to get to the range at least once leading up to the class and test the gear --(gun/mags/ammo/sights/holster/earpro/eye protection) you will be using at the course.
